2016 Groth Video Scholarship Winner Announcement

We are pleased to announce the winner of our 2016 Groth Law Firm Video Scholarship Contest. Madeline Sheedlo from Lincoln High School in Rapids, Wisconsin has been selected as our scholarship recipient for the year. You can watch her winning video submission here.

Madeline is an exemplary student involved in National Honor Society, Medical Science Club, the school yearbook, News Crew, tennis, poms, and Link Crew. Many of Madeline’s teachers say she is a hard worker and that she is cherished by all of her classmates. Madeline plans on attending a four-year university to pursue a degree in nursing.

In her video, Madeline works to illustrate the dangers of distracted driving and how easily police officers can spot these types of behaviors. Many times people do find themselves texting while driving, playing music too loudly, and being distracted by passengers and this can often lead to life-changing accidents. Her video is a great reminder that distracted driving is extremely dangerous and should always be avoided – distractions can always wait.

Madeline will be receiving a one-time $1,500.00 scholarship award that will be applied towards her Fall 2016 tuition.

For this year’s contest, we asked students to make a 30-second video answering the question “What can be done to make driving safer?” Motor vehicle accidents are a leading cause of preventable death and life-altering injuries, so we wanted to get students to think creatively about this problem and come up with potential solutions.

We received 16 total submissions by our deadline, and from these submissions, our staff narrowed it down to 10 videos based on quality, overall creativity, depth of the answer and adherence to prompt. We then let the general public vote for their favorite. All submissions are still available for viewing on our website.

While Madeline’s video recommends not texting while driving and avoiding other distractions like loud music and talking to people in the backseat; there were plenty of other great safety tips from other entrants. These included: avoiding reckless driving and always buckling up, amongst other things.

We want to thank everyone for their efforts, creative submissions and commitment to safe driving! To learn more about safe driving tips that you can implement when you’re behind the wheel, we encourage you to watch the video submissions.
